URBAN DISH: LOVELIKEBEER + SEA ROCKET
Up until now, the relatively young LOVELIKEBEER has been known for its pop-up style events at some of our favorite local spots founders Derek Humbard and Kory Stetina routinely get together with chefs to plan a one-night takeover of the menu, and feature multi-course vegan dinners with craft beer pairings. The guys are taking on a bit more semi-permanence these days with a new initiative: the LOVELIKEBEER Menu Series, which adds a vegan dish + craft beer pairing to local seasonal menus.
On Thursday, June 14th, LOVELIKEBEER will team up with Sea Rocket Bistro to eat, drink, be merry and be charitable as they launch this new endeavor and the new addition to Sea Rocket’s menu.
This week’s event will support Seeds @ City Urban Farm, an organization formed in collaboration with San Diego City College and San Diego Roots Sustainable Food Project that gives students access to a farm so that they can experience hands-on training and skills for urban farming. LOVELIKEBEER will feature a dish created by Sea Rocket Bistro Executive Chef Tommy Fraioli and pair it with Green Flash’s Red IPA, Hop Head Red.
Frailoi really outdid himself creating this super tasty vegan dish, a smoky, crisp grilled seitan. To accompany the seitan, he grilled corn and green beans and concocted a kimchee made of green onions, cabbage and carrots mixed with chili paste and apple cider vinegar. Balancing all of the flavors, Frailoi added soy sauce and orange juice, creating a truly rich and innovative vegan dish.
