URBAN DISH: SAN DIEGO BEER WEEK
It’s that time of year again (can I use that expression when something has only been around for two years?). The second annual San Diego Beer Week is upon us and I hope you are enjoying it.
All over San Diego County, your favorite purveyors of food and drink are hosting pairings, classes, sales and special menus showcasing San Diego brewskies. It began on Friday and the schedule is packed until Sunday, when the big event is the San Diego Brewer’s Guild’s beer garden at the lodge at Torrey Pines.
In my neighborhood, Session’s Public had a beer and cheese tasting, La Playa Bistro has beer pairings all week, and The Pearl has specials on local brews. Yes, I claim Ocean Beach and Point Loma both as my neighborhood.
So many places are hosting events this year, it’s impossible to do them all. You can get a deal on equipment for your home brew, sample a local specialty beer, meet a local brewer, or take a class.
We hit up Karl Strauss last night to try their special, only-available-during-beer-week, Star Anise Stout. They have a special on growlers and flights of beer too. The stout is called anise and sure smells like it, but it was actually pretty mild and more coffee flavored than anything else.
I’m looking forward to trying one of the beer and chocolate tasting menus, the local beer brunch at Alchemy, and going to every event where I can take home a free pint glass.
You have six days left to enjoy San Diego Beer Week. Check them out online or at #sdbw on twitter. Get out there and support our local breweries and businesses!
