Zombiewalk @ El Prado - 10/21/2017 This year marks 10 years of America's Finest Zombies shambling through San Diego! Just like last year, we will be collecting socks for San Diego's homeless population! Bring at least two pairs of new, unworn socks and get a collectible treat! Last year, our community was able to donate over 300 pairs of socks. Can we gather 500 pairs this year? Maybe even 1000? WHERE: Meet at the fountain at El Prado, between the Fleet Science Center and the Natural History Museum, in Balboa Park. You can see a map on the pinned post in the "discussion" section of this event page! WHEN: Saturday, October 21st at 2:30PM. Please do not arrive before 2:30PM. The walk will begin promptly at 2:45PM. Usually we try to hold the walks at dusk, but this year... there's a good reason to hold it a bit earlier! There's a Thriller Flashmob taking place in Old Town at 6:00PM! We want San Diego's undead community to be able to participate in both events and since we had already planned to hold the walk on the 21st and that's when the flashmob is taking place... we're going to hold the walk early enough for zombies to shamble with us and then go get their dance on in Old Town! [You can get more information on the flashmob at 6th Annual Thriller Flash Mob in Old Town San Diego - this is not an event affiliated withZombie Walk : San Diego, but we're all America's Finest Zombies! Come donate socks and talk a walk to warm up at Balboa Park, then go dance to "Thriller" in Old Town!] AGES: All ages, from 3 months to 3 centuries! The zombiewalk is open to everyone who shows up as the undead and is willing to follow the walk guidelines. Bring your grandparents, bring your kids, bring your dog! Remember
the more the scarier! PRICE: The zombiewalk has always been and will always be FREE! HOW: - Please come dressed / made-up as a zombie. - Do NOT bring extra blood/latex/anything messy to the meeting location with you. You may NOT leave blood on the ground at/near the meeting location or along the walk route. You will be asked to leave if you are seen doing so. Please respect our local community. Being a “zombie” does not excuse you from common courtesy. - We strongly encourage you to get creative with your own outfit & makeup BEFORE the walk as there will be NO onsite assistance with zombification. - Please be sure to check out our walk guidelines athttp://sdzombiewalk.com/ guidelines. They are important to make sure we have a walk that is fun & safe for everyone involved and/or watching
and ensure our ability to continue holding zombiewalks in San Diego. Let's make sure we can continue to walk![more]

Ocular Evidence @ Quint Gallery - 11/11/2017 Speaking of his paintings in the New York Times, McGinness said, “They use the visual language of universal sign systems and therefore give the illusion that they are communicating blunt pedestrian information, but they undermine that same visual language by evading elucidation.” (August, 2016) Quint Projects is pleased to present Ocular Evidence, Ryan McGinness’ fifth solo exhibition with the gallery. This exhibition of new paintings and cyanotypes provides evidence of the many different bodies of work McGinness has been exploring in recent years—from self-reflective Studio Views with process-referencing subject matter to iconic Signals, Skateboards, Mindscapes, and Black Holes. Large and small works, both colorful and monochromatic, fill the gallery exemplifying the artist’s range within his signature graphic aesthetic. “Ocular evidence” is a term McGinness came across while doing research for a large-scale public art project commissioned by the US government to be completed in 2018 at the San Ysidro/Tijuana border crossing. Concurrent with his exhibition at Quint Projects is a solo exhibition of McGinness’ work at the Cranbrook Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills, MI. Nearby, in downtown Detroit, McGinness recently opened a public art installation and skate park with professional skateboarder, Tony Hawk. McGinness’ work has been shown in many national and international exhibitions and is included in numerous public collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, VA; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; and The Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, NY [more]

SoNo Fest & Chili Cook-Off @ Thorn & 32nd Street - 12/03/2017 With an all-volunteer staff of parents, teachers, and local businesses working to raise funds for arts programming at McKinley Elementary School, the eighth annual SoNo Chili Fest & Cook-Off has evolved from a neighborhood chili exchange to one of San Diego’s most celebrated holiday traditions. Put on in conjunction with the San Diego Ceramic Connection, who provides a generous donation and supplies the keepsake bowls for the event, the festival has raised much needed funds since its inception in 2010. With 100% of proceeds guaranteeing yearly funding for the Spanish, art, and music to hundreds of McKinley school children, this is more than just a fun foodie festival. Dominating the border boulevards of Thorn Street and 32nd, the SoNo Fest & Chili Cook Off invites top Chefs and favorite local restaurants from North Park and South Park to compete in a classic chili cook-off, feeding crowds of nearly 20,000. While nearly 40 restaurants compete for a place in the Chili Hall of Fame, an expansive beer, cocktail and wine garden offers refreshing drinks to thirsty patrons looking to refuel, and a dedicated kids zone provides play equipment and endless entertaining. Two stages play live music throughout the day, and a food truck court allows for a respite from the chili tastings. Hosting a holiday market alongside the chili samplings, local artisans offer homemade goods and unique gifts for hungry shoppers. COST: It's FREE to enjoy the event // Listen to music and mingle with the community! Chili Tasting Pass with ceramic bowl or festival mug: $20 Beer, Wine, & Spirits: $6 Kids Zone tickets available at the event!
